These don't have one — just pressed paper with a fluted rim, which is why they compost in a backyard pile rather than needing an industrial facility.

Where These Aren't the Right Plate
We'd rather tell you now. Uncoated paper has no barrier layer, so a plate of curry, barbecue, or anything swimming in gravy will soften from underneath. They're also not built for cutting with a knife.
For hot plated meals, saucy food, or anywhere guests use cutlery, order our 9″ bagasse plates instead. They cost more per plate and are worth it for that job. Many operations stock both — bagasse for the main, paper for dessert.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will grease soak through?
With oily or saucy food, yes — there's no barrier layer, which is exactly what makes them home compostable. For pizza, cake, sandwiches, and dry food they hold fine. For gravy and curry, use bagasse.
Can I really compost these at home?
Yes. Uncoated paper breaks down in a backyard pile. Coated white plates and dense molded fiber both need commercial facilities — these don't.
Why aren't they shiny like other white plates?
Because the shine on most paper plates is a plastic or wax film. Removing it is the entire point of this product.
Can guests cut on them?
Not really. These are for food eaten by hand or with a fork. If your menu needs a knife, use bagasse.
Are they microwave safe?
For short reheating, yes. There's no plastic layer to melt. Don't use them for long heating or anything that will render out a lot of fat.
How much storage does 1000 take?
Less than you'd expect. They nest almost flat, so a full carton is roughly the size of a case of copy paper.
