About the Material — Read This Before Ordering
This lid is PET plastic. It is recyclable, not compostable. A bagasse food box with a PET lid cannot be sold as a fully compostable unit, and it will not meet compostable-only requirements in jurisdictions that have them.
If your operation is strictly zero-waste, use the boxes uncovered, with compostable film, or switch to our hinged clamshells. If you need clarity, rigidity, and stacking depth — and your customers recycle — PET is the right tool. We'd rather set that out here than have you find it at an inspection.

Which Should You Order?
RT86 box + this RTL86 lid — when the food is deep or saucy and you need to stack. The box gives you 1.85″ of depth and the lid adds under half an inch.
RT96 tray + RTL96 lid — when the meal is plated wide rather than piled deep. Bigger footprint, shallower box, taller lid.
PCT096 9″ × 6″ clamshell — when speed beats visibility. Hinged lid built in, nothing to match, fully compostable. Best for hot delivery.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many lids should I order per box?
Not one to one. Real usage runs roughly 40–75% — plenty of orders go uncovered or get served open at a buffet. Ordering matched pairs is the fastest way to end up with spare lids and no boxes.
Will it fit the 28 oz rectangle tray?
No. Different footprint entirely. The RT96 tray takes the RTL96 lid; this one fits the RT86 food box only.
Why is the lid wider than the box?
The lid overlaps the box rim rather than seating inside it. At 8.66″ against the box's 8.46″, that difference is the snap channel. Both are correct.
Can hot food go under this lid?
Not recommended. PET is built for cold applications — hot food will warp the lid and cause condensation that obscures what you wanted visible. Let food cool before covering, or serve open.
How high can I stack them?
Four deep safely for transport. The flat top distributes weight across the rim of the box below rather than pressing onto the food.
Is PET actually recycled in practice?
PET #1 is among the most widely accepted plastics in US curbside programs. Acceptance varies locally, and food residue can cause rejection — a quick rinse helps.
